Pacific Crest Trail
North out of Stevens Pass
FEBRUARY 18, 2008 A Mountaineers snowshoe. It was a bright, sunny day when our group headed north on the PCT out of Stevens Pass. The views were spectacular, and we saw many animal tracks. We turned back at an avalanche slope about 2 miles into our hike that was beyond the skill level of this outing and retreated to a sunny slope with great views of the surrounding mountain for lunch. We returned to the trailhead around 1:15 pm and discovered that westbound Hwy 2 was closed due to an avalanche. Some of our group drove around through Leavenworth and Snoqualmie Pass, but my carpool waited until the road re-opened around 3. We got home at about the same time those who drove the long way did.
About 4 miles roundtrip
200' elevation gain
Waiting for westbound Hwy 2 to reopen after an avalanche closed it.
